Hypnosis when used in dentistry to a wide area of applications. For the day-to-day lives of doctors, all kinds of patients come, their problems are the most differentiated. With resources used and enjoyed by hypnosis, these problems can be solved in almost its entirety.

Often out of fear, trauma, anxiety or distress, some patients interfere with the success of dental treatment. When faced with these problems the professionals in this area can be seen in the patient a series of symptoms and sensations such as sweating, shortness of breath, cold hands, nausea, pain in the neck, fainting, dizziness, difficulty in relaxing the jaw to an open appropriate interventions, anesthesia may not achieve the desired effect by the level of nervousness, and many other events in its various forms and characteristics.

Making use of hypnosis in the dental office may be allowed control of the usual difficulties such as:

Control mouth opening;
Control of tongue movements;
Control salivation;
Control of spasms of the jaw muscles
Control sensations caused by our work environment: equipment, high speed of sound, masks, gloves etc;
Control of body tension;
Control of nausea;
Anesthesia;
Analgesia;
Hemostasis.

A therapeutic approach, serving as a scientific basis and with simple healing practice, hypnosis is not intended to denigrate any patient sitting in the dental chair. To back up the entire ethics of dentistry, the goal of the use of hypnosis in medical offices is to enable and facilitate a ready, quick and painless treatment for patients.

Hypnosis is a special state of consciousness, altered when compared with the ordinary states of waking and sleeping, with high susceptibility to suggestion by the person who enters it. The term "hypnosis" (<Greek hypnos = sleep + Latin osis = action or process) takes its name from the British physician and researcher James Braid (1795-1860), who introduced it believed that it was a sort of sleep-induced . (Hypnos was also the name of the Greek god of sleep). When this mistake was recognized, the term was already recorded, and remained in use scientific and popular.
However, it should be clear that hypnosis is not a kind or form of sleep. The two states of consciousness are clearly distinct and modern technology can prove it in several ways, including by both EEG findings, which show brain wave forms, frequencies and different patterns for each case. The hypnotic state is also called a hypnotic trance.

Hypnosis has many benefits including Pain Modification. Beside Dentistry hypnosis has also been used for major surgeries and when used during surgery requires less gas to knock you out which means a quicker recovery time.
